Bienvenidos

Welcome to my blog for my year serving in La Plata, Argentina through Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM)!

Over the course of the year, I will use this blog to share experiences and insights from my time serving as a Young Adult in Global Mission.

While I am living in La Plata, I have two “site placements” for serving my local community.  The first is at a local parish, Congregación San Timoteo, where I will be assisting with their Young Adult program, accompanying them in the creation and execution of young adult activities.  The second is working at a “comedor,” where I will spend most of my time during the week.  A “comedor” is a place where children living in situations of poverty can come for a snack and a safe place for studying, playing, and learning.  I will be assisting with their daily activities and providing after-school tutoring.

The “comedor” is a type of “grassroots” organization, having originated in a woman’s garage and now grown into a more expansive program.  It is called “Compartiendo Un Sueño” (“Sharing a Dream”), which was the inspiration for the name of this blog, along with this quote:

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.”

-originally Arthur O’Shaughnessy in “Ode” from  Music and Moonlight, but made famous by Willy Wonka

Thank you for visiting my blog and taking the first step in accompanying me in this journey.  I hope you will have a look around at the pages and posts I’ve shared here, filled with information about the YAGM program, my experiences, and how you can continue to walk this journey with me.  I hope you will continue to visit this site throughout the year as I add stories and resources and that we can hold each other in our hearts and prayers as well.

Peace and blessings,

Gabriela (Gabrielle Laske)
